A symposium on school safety scheduled for Saturday, May 4, has been canceled due to low registration, WVU Extension and Department of Education officials announced today.

The interactive forum, The Robert C. Byrd Symposium 2002”Continuing the Search for Solutions and Strategies that Work,”was to be a follow-up to two other symposia dealing with school violence.

“While many teachers expressed interest in participating in this symposium, they also noted conflicts with the timing due to many teacher obligations at the end of the school year,”said Larry LeFlore, director of WVU Extensions 4-H, Youth, Family and Adult Development Center.”As a result, registration for the symposium was not reaching levels expected. We remain dedicated to working with teachers and school systems in the development of strategies for creating caring and supportive learning environments for students,”he added,”and thank Sen. Byrd for his leadership and concern.”
