A candlelight vigil and several guest speakers will highlight this years”Take Back the Night”activities Thursday, April 18, starting at 7 p.m. on the Mountainlair plaza.

Featured speakers include Monongalia County Delegate Barbara Fleischauer, rape prevention specialist Dr. Ruth Kershner, and domestic violence and rape survivors who will share their stories.

“Domestic violence and rape are universal problems, and its especially important for students on this campus to be aware of that and know what kind of resources are available to them,”said Brooke Thomas, a member of the Female Equality Movement.

Select monologues will be performed from”The Unspeakable Acts,”a play about rape awareness.

At approximately 8 p.m. the group will light candles and participate in an awareness march down High Street to the Monongalia County Courthouse.

Candles and signs will be provided for all participants.

The event is open to WVU faculty, staff, students and members of the community.
