The West Virginia University Student Recreation Center is offering a summer day camp to introduce children to a variety of outdoor pursuits.

Mountaineer Adventure Day Camp will be June 17-28 for children ages 8 through 11 and July 8-19 for children ages 12 through 15. Hours will be 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and the camp will be weekdays only.

Participants in each two-week program will receive expert instruction in camping/hiking, biking, canoeing, climbing, swimming, wilderness survival skills and orienteering,”try”scuba diving, arts and crafts and other leisure/recreational opportunities.

“Our experienced outdoor recreation leaders have designed a program that appeals to all levels of skill and ability,”said Sherri Restauri, program manager for special events and summer programs.”Our goal is to provide a teaching environment that is safe, fun and fosters an atmosphere of fairness and mutual respect.”

The Rec Center will provide an ideal setting for the camp, Restauri said. The state-of-the-art facility is home to an aquatics area with lap and leisure pools, a 50-foot indoor climbing wall, an indoor track, and courts for basketball, volleyball, badminton, racquetball and squash.

The camp is available to family members of WVU employees and the general public.

Cost of the campis $399 for each two-week session. Registration deadline is May 15, and participants who register before May 1 will receive a $25 discount. Enrollment for each session is a minimum 40 and a maximum 48.
