The European Unions anti-discrimination policies and the role of European youth in combating racism and xenophobia will be the focus of an April 5-6 Foreign Languages workshop at West Virginia University.

“The European Union is founded on principles of liberty, democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law: principles that run counter to racism and xenophobia, the fear or hatred of strangers,”said Deborah Jansen, associate professor of Foreign Languages.

“This conference will address ways to create alliances to combat pervasive discrimination,”Dr. Jansen said,”including ways that young people can play a special role in developing a united Europe that respects equal opportunities for all ethnic groups.”
