Low-income individuals and families as well as non-residential students can get free help preparing their tax statements this year through the West Virginia University College of Laws Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

“The College of Law faculty and participating students understand the difficulty in trying to complete income tax returns and also the high cost of securing income tax assistance,”said Robert Lathrop, WVU law professor and VITA coordinator.

“We are very pleased to offer this assistance throughout the upcoming two weeks,”Lathrop added.”It helps those in need, and our students, under the supervision of faculty, get experience in tax laws and preparation. So, everyone wins.”

VITA site volunteers will be available from 4-8 p.m daily March 11-15 and March 18- 22, in the WVU law school lobby. Participants must bring all tax information applicable to the 2001 tax year.
