Journalism alumni from around the state and region are invited to the annual WVU School of Journalism Alumni Association banquet at WVU s Erickson Alumni Center Saturday, April 13. A social hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. banquet and program.
In the spirit of the Olympic Games and the patriotism sweeping the nation since Sept. 11, organizers hope to embrace the theme”Valuing America and Our Alma Mater”at this years event.
The group will also honor Executive Director of the American Society of Newspaper Editors Scott Bosley, Class of 1965, as the 2001-2002 P.I. Reed Achievement Award recipient for his outstanding contributions to the journalism profession. Bosley is the 45th Reed award winner.
Two other distinguished gentlemen will also be honored for their service and dedication to their alma mater. Two-time past president of the WVU SOJ Alumni Association Leonard Gross, retired Consol executive (Class of 1949), and Michael Fulton, executive with Golin-Harris (Class of 1979) will receive the”Friend of the School”Award. This is the third year for this award, sponsored by The Shinnston News and Harrison County Journal.
SOJ Dean Christine Martin will also update alumni on activities and initiatives over the past year, and introduce the Schools outstanding students and teachers. Alumni who are supporting programming efforts at the School as”life members”also will be acknowledged.
