Standing on a platform that pledged improvements in the Student Government Association system as well as campus parking, senior Chris Gregory and junior Don McIntyre won West Virginia Universitys highest student offices this week.

Gregory, a senior political science major from Sugar Grove, was elected SGA president, while McIntyre, a junior political science major from Ripley, was chosen vice president.

Gregory has served as Attorney General for the student body and as co-chair of the Resident Assistant Council. He is a member of Gamma Beta Phi and Phi Sigma Alpha honoraries.

McIntyre has served on the Board of Governors and was president and captain of the mens crew team. He is a member of Helvetia honorary.

The Gregory/McIntyre platform also addressed printing fees and suggested implementing a program that would network WVU Career Services efforts between students and alumni to improve job searches upon graduation.

The Gregory-McIntyre ticket beat out the team of Josh Justice and Nick James.

Election committee chair Nasira Roidad said she was pleased with the voter turnout, reporting that 2,793 students voted in this years election25 more than last year.

Election results were close with Gregory/McIntyre capturing 1,511 votes to 1,053 for Justice/James.

The SGA Judicial Board will post the official election results today (March 1), after certifying challenge ballots.

WVU students also chose 15 Board of Governors members and two students to serve on the Athletic Council.

  • Michael Morgan, a junior pre-biology major from Conklin, N.Y. (674);
  • Jason Ottley, a senior education major from Martinsburg (674);
  • Blaire Nuzum, a sophomore public relations major from Fairmont (663);
  • Alissa Jenkins, a senior english major from Kearneysville (659);
  • Manieka Green, a senior finance and french major from Kearneysville (648);
  • Azadeh Afshari, a sophomore exercise physiology major from Morgantown (635);
  • Patrick Dillon, a junior finance major from Madison (591).

The SGA Judicial Board will meet today (March 1) to open”challenge”ballots to determine the 15th spot on the Student Board of Governors. Those students vying for the last Board of Governors spot are as follows:

  • Stacy Young, a sophomore elementary education major from Manassas, Va.;
  • Sam Insana, junior pre-psychology major from Washington, Pa.;
  • Jen Calcagno, a junior broadcast news major from Mantua, N.J.;
  • Jason Pizatella, a junior pre-political science major from Fairmont;
  • Scott Markovich, a junior political science major Monroeville, Pa.

Athletic Council:

Students elected Jeff Prichard and Megan Hershey to serve as representatives on the Athletic Council. Prichard, a junior business and economics major from Milton, received 965 votes; Hershey, a sophomore pre-speech pathology and audiology major from Stevens, Pa., received 920 votes.
