The John R. Williams Lecture Series is bringing one of the nations foremost authorities on European politics to West Virginia University.

Gary Marks of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will speak on The Transformation of Europe at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 7, in the Mountainlair Rhododendron Room.

Dr. Marks is a political science professor and director of the Center for European Studies at the University of North Carolina. He is the author and co-author of numerous books, including Unions in Politics, It Didnt Happen Here: Why Socialism Failed in the United States and Multi-level Governance in the European Union. He is also the co-editor of Governance in the European Union, Continuity and Change in Contemporary Societies and several other books.

Dr. John R. Williams, for whom the lecture series is named, was a former professor and chair of the Department of Political Science at WVU . The bi-annual lecture was made possible by a donation from Dr. Thomas and Jean Clark of Morgantown.
