West Virginia University President David C. Hardesty Jr. has been invited by officials at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., to be a part of the military colleges West Chair Speakers Series.

His presentation,”Assessing Your Leadership Skills,”will take place Thursday (Feb. 21), and reflect on his years of experience in various leadership posts. The message is grounded in the work of many authors who have written about components of leadership such as personal skills, ethics, communication and perseverance, he noted.

Hardesty is one of six guests scheduled to appear at The Citadel this spring. Other lecturers include Gordon Conway, president of the Rockefeller Foundation; Frank Fahrenkopf, former chairman of the Republican National Committee; and Richard Celeste, former governor of Ohio and former U.S. Ambassador to India.

The West Chair Speaker Series is named after Citadel graduate John C. West, former governor of South Carolina (1971-1975) and former U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia (1977-1981). Through a gift from Gov. West and a matching grant from The Citadel Foundation, the West Chair Speaker Series was inaugurated in the fall of 1999.
