A few West Virginia University students will trade in their jeans and t-shirts for a buckskin and musket as they battle each other for the title of Mountaineer Mascot Wednesday, Feb. 13, when the Mountaineer mens basketball team hosts Virginia Tech.

Two to four candidates will participate in a”cheer off”. Each candidate will take turns donning the traditional buckskin and musket and fire up the crowd with traditional cheers and chants.

“Were looking for someone with a lot of pride in both WVU and the state of West Virginia,”said Andy Cogar, former Mountaineer and chairman of the Mountaineer Selection Committee.”The Mountaineer must be someone who works well with people of all ages and has a lot of enthusiasm.”

The Mountaineer Selection Committee is comprised of six students and four faculty/staff members. The winner will be introduced at the last mens home basketball game with Georgetown on Feb. 27

Students vying for Mountaineer must be a full-time student with a minimum 2.0 GPA . Applications for Mountaineer were due on Feb. 6; interviews will take place on Sunday, Feb. 10.
