Miss West Virginia 2001, Danae DeMasi, will be out for blood when she stops at West Virginia University on Thursday, Jan. 17.


DeMasi, a senior at WVU majoring in elementary education, will be at the Ruby Memorial Hospital cafeteria Thursday from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. registering people for a Jan. 22nd blood drive at WVU , said Suzan Clemens of the American Red Cross.


Later in the day, Miss West Virginia also will be in the Mountainlair commons area from 3:30-6 p.m. to raise awareness about the continued importance of donating blood.


“We are again facing a blood shortage, with some blood types down to 18 percent,”Clemens said.”We hope that Danaes visit will remind people that blood donations are needed on a regular and consistent basis.”


The Jan. 22nd blood drive will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Health SciencesJohn Jones Conference Room. An appointment must be made to attend this blood drive by calling 598-4118.


Other WVU -American Red Cross Blood Drives are scheduled for noon-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, in Stalnaker Hall; 2-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, in Lyon Towers Gold Room; and from


9 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in the Coliseums Jerry West Mountaineer Lounge.
