West Virginia Universitys Air Force ROTC will participate in two local Veterans Day events this weekend, while one University unit plans to honor its military veterans next week.
Air Force ROTC members will join area veterans in Morgantowns Veterans Day parade at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, on High Street, said Capt. Chris Hemrick.
The following day, Veterans Day, Hemrick will be the guest speaker at an 11 a.m. ceremony at the Monongalia County Courthouse Square. He will speak about the meaning of Veterans Day in relation to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on America and the U.S. military response. World War I veterans will also be honored with a memorial dedication.
Both the parade and ceremony are sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 548 in Morgantown. John Horne is the posts commander.
On the WVU campus, Physical Plant will treat the units 83 veterans to a continental breakfast from 6-7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in the Coliseums Jerry West Lounge, said Physical Plant Director Lee Comer. The time coincides with workersshift changes.
Besides the breakfast, there will be a roll call of Physical Plant employees who are active or inactive veterans and a presentation of certificates of appreciation to each veteran.
Last month, the University sponsored a Military Appreciation Breakfast for current members of the military as well as veterans in the Mountainlair Ballrooms as part of Diversity Week.
