A much anticipated eatery will open its doors at the West Virginia University Mountainlair at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 30).

Mean Genes is an eatery known for offering seven varieties of hamburgers, ranging from a mini-burger to a BlazinCajun burger, said Jeff DeMoss, director of WVU Dining Services.

The fast food operation also will serve crispy and grilled chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, chili cheese fries, a breakfast menu and a nationally recognized smoothie beverage program. They also feature a 99-cent menu.

Hours of operation are Monday-Wednesday, 7:30 a.m.-11 p.m.; Thursday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-10 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; and Sunday, noon-11 p.m.

Mean Genes, which replaces Wendys, is a partnership between Mean Gene Okerlund, of professional wrestling broadcasting fame, and Orion Food Systems of Sioux Falls, S.D.

There are other new WVU eateries. The Waterfront Cafwill open at One Waterfront Place Nov. 6, and the Sports Cafopened at WVU s new Student Recreation Center on the Evansdale Campus earlier this fall.
