“America: Devil or Saint?”will be the topic of a Sunday (Oct. 28) forum exploring the rise of anti-Americanism in the Middle East as West Virginia Universitys four-part colloquium on”deconstructing”the Sept. 11 tragedy continues. The panel discussion begins at 7 p.m. in the Gluck Theater, Mountainlair.

Professors Abdulkader Al-Azzaz, radiology, William Arnett, history, and Joseph Hagan, political science, will share their thoughts on how Americans are viewed in this part of the world and other relevant topics. Audience participation is welcome.

“The stunning scale of the tragedy of Sept. 11 and the events that have followed has sparked a new sense of engagement among all of us,”said Provost Gerald Lang, whose office is coordinating the colloquium.”This series is about listening, learning and dialogue so that we all have a better perspective on whats happening now and what has happened in the past to lead to this American tragedy.”

The series, which kicked off Oct. 21 and runs through Nov. 6, continues with the following presentations:

  • Tuesday, Nov. 6”Balancing Security and Civil Liberties,”7 p.m., Ballroom, Mountainlair. Panelist: Professor Gerald Ashdown (Law).
