The C-SPAN School Bus will visit West Virginia University Wednesday (Oct. 17) as part of its continuing tour of schools and cable systems across America. The bus will be parked in front of the Mountainlair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The visit is being coordinated by the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism.

“C-SPAN consistently presents the best in television newsno sensationalism, excellent research, diverse sources and intelligent programming,” WVU Journalism School Dean Christine Martin said.”So I cannot think of a better opportunity for our students to learn about news and covering the news.”

The 45-foot motor coach, a traveling TV production studio and media demonstration center, will provide students, educators and community leaders with first-hand knowledge of the C-SPAN Networks24-hour public affairs programming.

While the bus is on the road, C-SPAN televises on-air updates, short programs from historical sites and selected public affairs events from local communities along the tour. The WVU stop is part of a two-day visit to Morgantown.

“Sadly, in the current economy, its becoming harder and harder to find organizations committed to supporting journalism education,”Martin said.”But C-SPAN continues its strong support to training young journalists. Were thrilled that they will involve our students in this hands-on approach to teaching and learning.”

C-SPAN airs locally on Adelphia Cable channel 25 and is currently available in 77 million households nationwide. C-SPAN2 airs locally on Adelphia Cable channel 26 and is currently available in 58 million households nationwide.

C-SPAN was created by Americas cable television companies and is offered as a public service. For more information on C-SPAN and the C-SPAN School bus, go to: www.c-span.org .
