West Virginia University students, faculty and staff effected by the recent military call-ups are encouraged to explore their legal rights granted under The Soldiersand SailorsCivil Relief Act of 1940 (SSCRA).

SSCRA protects active duty military members and reservists called to active duty and, in limited situations, dependants of military members. SSCRA covers issues such as rental agreements, security deposits, installment contracts, mortgage interest rates, mortgage foreclosure, credit card interest rates, civil judicial proceedings and income tax payments.

For more information, consult the military information portal sponsored by the U.S. Army Judge Advocate Generals Corps at http://www.jagcnet.army.mil/Legal . Included on the site, in addition to in-depth information on SSCRA , is a list of Legal Assistance Offices throughout the country.
