Athletic director Ed Pastilong has announced some additional security measures for Saturday’s (sept. 22) WVU -Kent State football game.

No coolers, backpacks or large bags will be allowed in the stadium; fans with special needs (such as medical items, diaper bags, etc.) must present those at the specially-marked gates at each entrance, where they will be searched. All personal items will be inspected.”We’re asking our fans to be patient and expect some delays in order to make it safe for everyone,”Pastilong says.

The FAA regional office will allow no VFR air navigation near the stadium, except for law enforcement and medical aircraft. Other changes will include sealing off the stadium on Friday evening, restricting deliveries and increasing the number of security personnel on hand for the game.

“We have always felt that our stadium security has been good, and we appreciate the efforts of all those who work at our games,”Pastilong says.”In light of the recent national events, we have given our operations a thorough review and are adding some people in key areas.”

WVU hosts Kent State in a 1 p.m. game Saturday at Mountaineer Field. Gates will open at 11:30 a.m. Tickets still remain for that game; call 1-800-WVU GAME for information.
