An anonymous bomb threat called into the Health Sciences Center this morning (Sept. 13) at 8:22 a.m. emptied the facility until about 10:30 a.m. Over 2,500 employees work at the building that houses the administrations of the Health Sciences schools and University Health Associates, a number of out-patient clinics, student classrooms, research labs and faculty offices.

Following a sweep of the building, the”all clear”was given for employees and others to return to the building about mid-morning. Vice President Gary Murdoch said while authorities suspected it was a hoax, these types of threats have to be taken seriously in light of Tuesday’s terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.

Ruby Memorial Hospital, that stands about 50 yards away, was not evacuated and the emergency department and patient care was unaffected, officials confirmed.
