Attention West Virginia University students, faculty and staff: Community and student service learning organizations need your help!
The third annual Service Learning Fair, co-sponsored by the WVU Office of Service Learning Programs, United Way Volunteer Action Center and several student service organizations, will be held Monday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m to 2:30 p.m. on the first floor of the Mountainlair.
Many of WVU s service learning projects will be highlighted during the fair. These are course-based opportunities in which students apply the concepts and theories learned in class to community-based projects. Some service learning participants also will be on hand to talk about their experiences.
In addition, those visiting the fair will learn about other volunteer opportunities with community organizations including Kaleidoscope Community Learning Centers, In Touch and Concerned and PACE Training and Evaluation Center. Students and staff can speak with members of various service organizations on campus to find out more about the projects in which they participate and how to join.
The fair also will serve as the kick-off for WVU s involvement in Make a Difference Day, a national day of helping others that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October. Those attending can sign up to help on a project scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27.
Door prizes will be drawn throughout the day. For more information on the WVU Service Learning Fair, contact the Office of Service Learning Programs at 293-8761.
