Tom Witt, director of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at West Virginia University, was at the annual national meeting of the National Association for Business Economics at the World Trade Center during Tuesday’s (Sept. 11) terrorist attack.

Dr. Witt called at about 12 p.m. and confirmed that he survived the attack and is well but shaken by the events. B&E officials have also confirmed that his wife, Grethe, is OK. Neither was injured.

Dr. Tom S. Witt is the associate dean for research and outreach, College of Business and Economics and, in addition to serving as the director of the Bureau, is a professor of economics and interim director of the newly created Entrepreneurship Center in the College.

Dr. Witt joined WVU in 1970 and has written several books and numerous reports on various aspects of the West Virginia economy. In 2000, he was named among the State Journals Whos Who in West Virginia Business.
