Disbursements from the West Virginia University Foundation on behalf of the University rose to a record $29.95 million during fiscal year 2001 and provided support for students, faculty, academic programs, research, equipment, facilities and the WVU Libraries.

The Foundation also received $53.7 million in outright gifts and pledges ($38.8 in outright gifts and $14.9 million in pledges) during fiscal year 2001, while its total assets under management grew to $416.9 million.

“During a year in which the stock market endured difficulty and suffered significant losses, the Foundation was exceedingly pleased to have received such generous support from alumni and friends of the University,”said F. Duke Perry, Foundation president and CEO .

The Building Greatness Campaign ended its third year with $160.9 million.

“Support for the campaign has been tremendous,”Perry added.”If this is any indication of future support, we hopefully will not only reach, but surpass our $250 million goal.”

Commitments to the campaign from alumni are at $40.6 million; friends of WVU , $57.7 million; foundations, $18.4 million; corporations, $39 million; and other organizations, $5.4 million.

The campaign publicly kicked off on Nov. 11, 2000, with $116 million raised. The Foundation is conducting the Campaign on behalf of the University. It will conclude Dec. 31, 2003.
