The dean of West Virginia Universitys College of Business and Economics has announced he will resign to take a position as dean at the Joseph A Sellinger School of Business and Management at Loyola College in Maryland.

Dean Lee Dahringer announced his decision to B&E faculty and staff on Tuesday, July 31, effective on August 15.

WVU Provost Gerald Lang said a search committee to replace the dean will be formed soon.”Dr. Dahringer has contributed to the College of Business and Economicsprogress on many fronts, and he will be missed. However, I understand his decision to accept a position at Loyola, and wish him well.”The provost said an interim dean would be named shortly.

Loyola College in Maryland, located in northern Baltimore City, is a Jesuit university, founded in 1852, with an enrollment of 3,200 undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students.

“This opportunity came recently and was unsolicited,”Dahringer said.”It has been a difficult decision both personally and professionally. Significant personal reflection at this time has led me to recognize that what I value in education is embodied in a traditional liberal arts education, centered in mainstream moral and ethical values. Thus, an institution such as Loyola, which is a private, Jesuit, liberal arts-based college, is an appropriate setting for me. I am honored by the opportunity Loyola has offered and was persuaded to respond favorably.”

Dahringer came to WVU from the College of Business Administration at Butler University in Indianapolis in July 1999 as B&Es ninth dean. He replaced Sydney Stern, who retired that year.
