A field day will be held Thursday, Aug. 2, from 3-7 p.m. at West Virginia University’s innovative Organic Research Farm.

The farm, located on Route 705 in Morgantown near the Mileground, is home to an ongoing project where researchers compare organic farming systems to determine the effects on crop yields, soil quality and pest populations.

An economic analysis of labor and management inputs estimates profitability on a whole, farming-system basis. The research is conducted by a multidisciplinary team of scholars from WVU ’s Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences.

Events at the field day will include a wagon tour of the farm and demonstrations of organic methods. A supper featuring organically grown vegetables will be served at 6 p.m.

Gates open at 3 p.m. with wagon tours starting at 3:30 p.m. Pre-registration is requested and can be made by calling 293-4727 or e-mailing project research assistant Tom Batchelor at tbatchel@wvu.edu . For additional information, contact Jim Kotcon at 293-3911, ext. 2230.
