West Virginia University President David C. Hardesty Jr. has high praise for the people Gov. Bob Wise appointed to the Universitys governing board this week (see attached list).
Wise appointed 12 members who, along with one representative each from the faculty, classified staff and student body, will make up WVU s 15-member institutional Board of Governors. Higher education reform legislation passed last year called for the creation of institutional governing boards to bring decision-making closer to the campus level. The 12 people Wise appointed have spent the past year learning about WVU as members of the Universitys Board of Advisors.
“During the past year, the 15-member WVU Board of Advisors has studied the law, gotten to know each other and learned as much about WVU as possible,”Hardesty said.”Their committee work in academics, business affairs, student life and university relations has been exhaustive. I am pleased that Gov. Wise has reappointed this outstanding group of individuals to the new WVU Board of Governors, and I look forward to working with them in the years ahead to govern the University and our regional campuses.”
Of the members that Wise appointed, three will serve one-year terms, three will serve for two years, three will serve for three years and three, for four years.
This years constituency group representatives on the board will be Roy S. Nutter Jr. (faculty), professor, computer and electrical engineering; Paul R. Martinelli (classified staff), operations coordinator, WVU Extension Service; and Jeremy A. Posey of Weston (student).
