Call it climbing to the top for a worthy cause.

Morgantown police officer Gina Panico will do just that at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 7, when she scales Hardees on Chestnut Ridge Road to raise money for Special Olympics West Virginia. The event precedes this weekends Summer Games at West Virginia University.

Panico plans to stand on the roof of Hardees with a bucket, which she will lower by rope to customers wishing to contribute to Special Olympics, said Christina Goodwin, sales marketing manager of Guardian Food Services, the fast-food restaurants franchisee.

She will remain on the roof until the bucket is so full she can no longer raise it, Goodwin said.
