A senior partner in a prominent Charleston law firm has assumed the position as the 100th national president of the West Virginia University Alumni Association Board of Directors.


Stephen P. Goodwin, head of the litigation department at Goodwin and Goodwin, has been a long-time supporter of WVU and the Alumni Association. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from WVU (69; JD72).


A former city attorney for the town of Ripley, Goodwin is a member of the West Virginia State Bar and the American Bar Association. He previously served as a member of the West Virginia Board of Medicine.


He also served in several capacities with the WVU College of Law, and currently serves as a member of the Visiting Committee.


Goodwins law firm also established a professorship at the College of Law in honor of Stephens brother, Thomas R. Goodwin (66 AB,69 JD).


Goodwin, along with the WVU Alumni Association, will mark several milestones during his presidency, including the establishment of the 100th active chapter. These chapters are located nationwide and are a means to keep all alumni connected to their alma mater. Goodwin will also be in office when the Alumni Association begins its five-year strategic plan to better assist current WVU students and alumni.


The new president resides in Mt.Alto with his wife of 30 years, Ellen Gibson Goodwin (71 BM), and the Goodwins have three children Aly (94 BS), Carte and Ryan.


Goodwin succeeds Dr. James Wilson of Glen Dale. Also serving on the WVU Alumni Association Board of Directors for 2001-2002 are: President-Elect, Glenn T.
