Some 2,811 students are graduating from West Virginia University this semester, bringing the academic years total to 4,722, Admissions and Records officials said.


The total includes 1,089 graduates in December and 822 in August 2000.


Many of this terms graduates will be participating in WVU s 132nd Commencement at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 13, at the Coliseum.


John Chambers, chief executive officer of Cisco Systems and a WVU alumnus, will give the commencement address. Chambers, Gov. Bob Wise and Winston Shelton, a WVU alumnus and inventor, will receive honorary degrees.


The day before, four individuals will be inducted into the Order of Vandalia for service to the state and WVU . They are William Fleming, a WVU professor emeritus of pharmacology; Charles H. Haden II, chief justice of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District; Peter S. White, a Charleston insurance executive; and Dr. Ronald L. Wilkinson, a physician and former WVU otolaryngology professor.


Also Saturday, WVU graduates and their families will have the opportunity to tour the new Student Recreation Center. The $34 million facility is scheduled to open in June.
