The WVU Center for Womens Studies will sponsor a workshop to explore research and gender on Wednesday, May 9, and Thursday, May 10.


Alice Dan, director of the University of IllinoisCenter for Research on Women and Gender, will open the two-day session with a 7:30 p.m. address,”Perspectives on Womens Health in the New Millennium,”in E. Moore Hall.


Dr. Dan is a professor in the College of Nursing and the School of Public Health at Illinois, and also directs UIC s National Center of Excellence in Womens Health.


Her major research interests include premenstrual symptoms, the effects of stress on menstrual functioning, physical activity in mid-life women and health consequences of menopause.


Dan serves on the Board of Directors of the National Council on Women and has been active in promoting increased participating of women in all levels in science and engineering.


Workshops, panel discussions and break-out planning sessions are planned from 8:30 a.m.- 4:45 p.m May 10 at Morgantowns Clarion Hotel Morgan. Dan will be joined for these activities by WVU panelists Kristine Krajnak, biology; Carol Markstrum, family and consumer science; and Ethel Morgan Smith, English.
