Campaign season on the West Virginia University campus gets under way Saturday, Feb. 10, the first day candidates are allowed to begin their campaigning for seats in WVU ’s student government.


According to student elections chairperson Nasira Roidad, there are four teams of potential candidates vying for the student administration president and vice-president posts; 38 potential candidates vying for 15 Board of Governors seats, two potential Athletic Council candidates vying for two positions; and one vying for the one seat on the Advisory Council of Students. Each candidate’s eligibility will be determined after a review of all the candidate packets, Roidad said. There are 20 elected positions.


Also on the ballot are two proposed amendments to the Constitution of the Student Body. The first amendment would create an Appeals Panel to the Judicial Branch for the purpose of evaluating cases prior to a Judicial Board of Appeals hearing. The second amendment proposes changing the name of the student administrative body from Student Administration to Student Government Association.


Debates and informational forums are planned for the days leading up to the Feb. 20-22 elections.


On Monday, Feb. 12, students can get to know the candidates during a candidate forum in the Mountainlair Food Court at 11:30 a.m.


Two debates are planned: The first will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 13, in the Towers Gold Room from 7-9 p.m; the second on Friday, Feb. 16, during WVUp All Night activities in the Mountainlair Food Court at 10 p.m.


Polls open on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at various locations on campus: Medical Center Bookstore, 7:3011:30 a.m.; Allen Hall, 10 a.m.2 p.m.; Engineering Building, 10 a.m.2 p.m.; Law School, 9 a.m.1 p.m.; and Towers Dining Hall, 11 a.m.7:30 p.m.


Voting continues on Wednesday, Feb. 21, in the Mountainlair from 8:30 a.m.7:30 p.m.


On the final day of voting, Thursday, Feb. 22, polls will be open in the Mountainlair from 8 a.m.5 p.m.; Arnold Hall, 37 p.m.; Boreman Hall, 36:30 p.m.; and Dadisman/Stalnaker Hall, 36:30 p.m.


The SA inaugural banquet is set for 2 p.m. March 11 at Erickson Alumni Center.
