Students and faculty at West Virginia University will hold a week-long series of events Nov. 27-Dec. 2 to commemorate”World AIDS Day 2000.”Special events are being held Dec. 1, World AIDS Day.The goal of the participants is to address the challenges presented by the spread of HIV /AIDS. The schedule for the week is:
- Monday, Nov. 27Information booths: Mountainlair and Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center
- Tuesday, Nov. 28Speakers:”Living with AIDS /HIV in WV,”259 Hodges Hall, 6-8 pm
- Wednesday, Nov. 29Speakers:”Living with AIDS /HIV in WV,”12-1 pm Hostler Auditorium, Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center.Free and anonymous HIV testing from 1-8 pm at the Carruth Center.Coffeehouse and open-mike night at Perks at 8 pm featuring Professor Tim Harms.
- Thursday, Nov. 30”Rob’s Story: A sister’s tale of loss,”presented by Melanie Cook, assistant to the dean of student affairs, E. Moore Hall. Time TBA .
- Friday, Dec. 1, World AIDS Day 2000- Names reading in front of the Mountainlair from 9 am-5:30 pm.This service remembers those who have fallen to AIDS . Memorial bell ringing at Oglebay Hall, starting at noon. Speakers include: President David Hardesty, Robert D’Alessandri, MD, dean of medicine and vice president for health sciences at WVU , Jennifer McIntosh, Office of Social Justice and Lourdes Cottingham, University Health Service.
- Saturday, Dec. 2World AIDS Day Community Potluck Dinner, 7 p.m. Trinity Episcopal Church, Willey St. Admission to all events is free; refreshments will be served at selected events.
