One of the nations foremost authorities on the causes of war will speak at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, in the West Virginia University Mountainlair, Rhododendron Room.
John Vasquez, professor of political science at Vanderbilt University, will lecture on The Causes of War and Prospects for Peace in the 21st Century.
Dr. Vasquez joined the political science faculty at Vanderbilt in 1993 and is the schools director of graduate studies. Before that, he taught at Rutgers University and Earlham College and was a Fulbright research professor at the University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia.
He is the author of more than 50 books, book chapters and articles, including What Do We Know About War?, The War Puzzle and Beyond Confrontation: Learning Conflict Resolution in the Post-Cold War Era. He also serves on the editorial boards of several journals.
He earned his doctorate in political science from Syracuse University in 1974.
Vasquezs lecture is part of the Carl M. Frasure Memorial Lecture Series in WVUs Department of Political Science. Dr. Frasure was a former department chairman and dean of the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences. The lecture series is made possible by a donation from Dr. Thomas and Jean Clark of Morgantown.
