Weirton native Ashley Bainbridge was named West Virginia Universitys Homecoming Queen Saturday, Nov. 4 during halftime ceremonies of the WVU -Syracuse football game.

Bainbridge is a member of Alpha Phi sorority, Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, Golden Key National Honor Society and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Her awards and honors include a WVU Leadership Scholarship and a Weirton Steel Corporation Scholarship. In addition to her activities at WVU , Bainbridge has volunteered for several elementary and middle schools, the Salvation Army, Hancock County Special Olympics and the Boys and Girls Club of Weirton.

She is the daughter of William and Pamela Bainbridge of Weirton.

The 2000 Homecoming King was Robert Ross, Jr. Ross, a finance major, is president of Delta Sigma Pi professional business fraternity and is a member of Golden Key National Honor Society, Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society and Mountaineer Council. He is the recipient of a John E. Arbuckle Scholarship.

His parents are Robert and Sondra Ross of Bridgeport.

All West Virginia University students can apply to be a member of the Homecoming Court. A panel of judges then selects five men and five women who comprise the Homecoming Court. Once the court is chosen, the king and queen are selected through voting by the student body.
