The seventh professorship to be endowed at the West Virginia University College of Law and the fourth in less than three years will receive formal recognition as the Steptoe&Johnson Professorship of Law and Technology at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11, in the WVU College of Law lobby.

“The firm enjoys a rich history of giving, to the college, and notable past gifts include the creation and furnishing of the Law Center’s Steptoe&Johnson Mini-Courtroom, dedicated in 1987, and funding of an annual law scholarship,”said John Fisher, dean.

The Steptoe&Johnson Professorship, established to promote greater use of technology in the practice of law, was prompted by the firm’s own successes with better serving its clients through its use of advanced communications and technology systems. The firm of Steptoe&Johnson, first established in 1913, has grown to include seven offices statewide and a roster of 125 attorneys and 175 support staff.

Managing partner, Robert M. Steptoe, Jr., a 1970 graduate of the WVU College of Law, said the partners who created the professorship agreed that as one of the major law firms in the state, it is their responsibility to take the lead in supporting West Virginia University and the College of Law.
