The full WVU Coliseum will be open to the public beginning Monday, Nov. 13, following a year-long asbestos abatement project that included removing the inner lining of the dome and some portions of the outer concourse areas and mechanical ring and reapplying a non- asbestos material.

The concourse areas and upper arena seating will be open for walkers and spectators who want to watch basketball practice beginning Monday, Oct. 16.Still under way is the replacement of hardwood flooring for the court surface; installation of pullout seats will begin after the flooring project is complete.

The flooring will be completed by the time basketball practice begins in mid October, officials say.

The 14,000 seat arena has been closed to the public since August 1999. Actual work began last October when Physical Plant did some cleaning in the dome area and mechanical ring while plans and specifications were being developed to abate the Coliseum. Contracted work by USA Remediation began February 27.
