Two fetuses discovered around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday (April 26) in a WVU residence hall were stillborn, according to information released late today by the state medical examiner.
Dr. Jack Frost said the fetuses had an approximate gestational age of five months, or 22 weeks, and would not have had a chance of survival even if born at a medical facility. They were Caucasian fraternal twins one a male; the other a female.
The fetuses were discovered by a custodian in a commode on the ninth-floor bathroom of Lyon Tower, one of four connecting dormitories in the Evansdale Residential Complex.
No foul play was involved, and no charges will be filed against the young woman, according to Bobby Roberts, WVU Department of Public Safety and Transportation director.
Roberts said that a WVU student living in the residence hall has been potentially identified as the mother.
“We have a good idea of who we are dealing with and have spoken to the young woman several times about the matter,”Roberts said.”To our knowledge, she has received medical care.
“This is a very tragic case with no happy ending for anyone. We wish this young woman well and offer her our support.”
