A leader in a national movement to bring universities and communities together to address critical needs will lead a discussion Monday, April 3, on the West Virginia University campus kicking off a W. K. Kellogg annual Community Partnerships Higher Education Consortium meeting in Morgantown.

Dr. Howard Daudistel of the University of Texas-El Paso will address higher education leaders, faculty, students and community members from East Tennessee State University, Northeastern University, UTEP and WVU at 9 a.m. in the Mountainlair.

Dr. Susan Hunter of WVUs Office of Service Learning will facilitate a mid-morning breakout discussion related to community and the power of place in teaching and learning, and Dr. Susan Spurlock of Northeastern University will lead a late afternoon discussion concerning the challenges of and obstacles to involving communities in teaching and learning partnerships across different disciplines.

A site visit to Marion County to observe a service enhancement project is also planned for 1 p.m. Monday.

A Tuesday 8 a.m. poster session in the Lair Mountain Room will showcase community partnership projects, and a provost panel facilitated by Dr. Bruce Behringer of East Tennessee State will follow.
