Three candidates will interview on campus next month for the deanship of the WVU Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism, Provost Gerald Lang said today.

The candidates, their current posts and dates of visits are:

  • April 3-4Christine M. Martin, Interim Dean, School of Journalism; associate professor/sequence chair, news-editorial; and director of the undergraduate writing program, West Virginia University
  • April 6-7Donald W. Jugenheimer, Director of the School of Journalism; professor of advertising, Southern Illinois University
  • April 10-11Edward Jay Friedlander, Director of the School of Mass Communications; professor of mass communications, University of South Florida.

The WVU School of Journalism enrolls 400 undergraduate students and 40 graduate students in four sequencesnews-editorial, broadcast news, public relations and advertisingand employs 11 full-time faculty members, approximately 15 part-time faculty, plus four full-time staff.

Dean William Deaton of the College of Human Resources and Education is coordinating the national search. Former dean, William T. Slater, left last June for a similar post at the University of Nevada.
