The justices of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals will travel from Charleston to Morgantown on Tuesday, March 21, to hear cases at West Virginia Universitys College of Law.
Hearings begin at 10 a.m. in the schools Marlyn E. Lugar Courtroom. The public is invited.
Some of the cases to be heard include a personal injury suit, a child support case and appeal of a murder conviction.
The Supreme Court travels to WVU , as well other places statewide, annually to better educate state citizens with the legal process.
At 2 p.m. that day, the justices also will judge two law student finalists in the intramural Moot Court George C. Baker Cup Competition.
The competition was established in 1926 in honor of George Coleman Baker, a distinguished Morgantown lawyer and a 1886 WVU law graduate.
It was increased during the 1980s when Judge Bakers daughters, Mary Jane Baker-English and the late Betty Sue Armistead, both of Morgantown, established the Baker Cup Endowment to provide cash prizes.
Mrs. Armistead later created an additional endowment, which supports the student Moot Court teams competition travels. The Baker Cup final is also open to the public.
