West Virginia Universitys first Mountaineer Parents Club University will be held for all club officers from 9:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the WVU Mountainlair.

Club leaders are encouraged to spend the day on the WVU campus to see the many facets of college life, said Mountaineer Parents Club Chair Susan Hardesty, wife of WVU President David C. Hardesty Jr.

Dr. Robert DiClerico, a political science professor and national authority on the American presidency, will start the day with a lecture titled”Choosing a President.”

The second session gives parents the opportunity to discover”Whats Hot and Whats Not”when it comes to career paths relative to their students course of studies.

Faculty and students from the College of Creative Arts will introduce club leaders to the many opportunities available to students, and President Hardesty will lead a session to acquaint participants with various research projects conducted by faculty and students.

A final break-out session will enable club officers to brainstorm and share ideas about their various leadership positions.

There will be many giveaways throughout the day, including a weekend at Lakeview Scanticon, Historic Clarion Hotel Morgan and nearby Nemacolin Woods.

“Its our way of letting our club leaders know their participation in the Mountaineer Parents Club University is appreciated,”Mrs. Hardesty said.

Lunch at the Mountainlair will be sponsored by Eat N Park Restaurants and the WVU Alumni Association.

A bonus to this special day, she added, will be an evening of exceptional music featuring Joan Baez and a theater performance of Macbeth. The WVU Music Scholarships annual fund raiser that features an auction, a big band dance and a buffet dinner also will be held.

“Parents will have time to visit with their students in addition to learning more about the college experiences at WVU ,”Mrs. Hardesty said.”The Mountaineer Parents Club University is one way we can show our thanks to those family members who have raised their hands high and volunteered to accept a leadership position in the Mountaineer Parents Club.”

The club, established in 1996 as a support organization for families of University students, now has over 8,000 members in clubs across the state and nation.
