WVUs Mountain Honorary named sophomore Scott Moore the 2000-2001 Mountaineer tonight during a ceremony at halftime of the WVU -Miami mens basketball game in Charleston.
Moore, a sophomore animal and veterinary science major from Barrackville, first cheered on the Mountaineers as a WVU cheerleader. He will take the reigns from senior Brandon Flower who has served as Mountaineer for two years.
This years finalistsMoore, Allen Harrison from Sissonville and Adam Knauff from Charlestoncompeted in a”cheer off”at the WVU -Pitt mens basketball game on Feb. 10. Applicants were judged on leadership qualities, academics, a personal essay and an interview.
“We looked for someone who not only is a leader and well respected on campus, but someone who is enthusiastic and truly represents the state and its people well,”commented Phil Caskey, a graduate student in sport management who co-chaired the selection committee.
Knauff, a senior industrial management systems engineering major, will serve as the Mountaineer alternate, a mascot who works mostly when WVU has two conflicting events that require a Mountaineers presence.
