There’s nothing like a football Saturday at Mountaineer Field. Now the electricity and excitement of a fall afternoon will fill the air for West Virginia University’s graduation exercises.

WVU President David C. Hardesty Jr. announced today that Commencement 2000 ceremonies will be staged at the 63,500-seat stadium at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 14rain or shine.

“As we continue our campus-wide WVU 2000 celebration, we are thrilled to announce this new location for a very special graduation 2000, Hardesty said.”As most people know, our traditional home for graduationthe Coliseumhas been closed since August. We have staged other events like New Student Convocation and December Convocation at the Creative Arts Center very successfully. I feel confident this new venue will also work out well.

Besides plenty of seating, the double-deck stadium offers a scoreboard messaging center, ample parking, plenty of handicapped seating, restrooms, concessions, tailgating and more.

The 2000 commencement speaker has not yet been confirmed.
