In a move that coincides with the 30th year of its mission, the Education Alliance’s Board of Directors elected West Virginia University College of Education and Human Services Dean Lynne Schrum as its higher education representative during its annual meeting this month.

“I am honored to be a higher education representative for the Education Alliance,” said Schrum, “and serve in an organization that seeks to bring the education and business communities together to improve the lives of students in West Virginia.”

Schrum’s nomination comes after her extensive background in education technology and leadership garnered her nomination, which Chairman of the Board Jim Thomas noted will bring a new point of view to the organization. She will serve on the Board from 2014-2017.

The Education Alliance is a nonprofit based out of West Virginia that advocates for quality public education in the state. It is governed by a Board of Directors whose members represent small businesses, state government, education, corporations and local communities from across West Virginia. Amelia Davis Courts, president and CEO of the Alliance, believes Schrum’s nomination will lend a fresh perspective to the board.

“Dr. Schrum was recommended by the Nominating Committee to join the Board of Directors because of her extensive leadership experience and for the in-depth education perspective she will bring to the board,” Courts said. “She was approved by the full board as its newest member and will begin a three-year term in January 2014. I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Schrum to our Board of Directors and I look forward to working with her in that capacity.”

Also elected to the Board of Directors during the annual meeting were Andy Feeney, regional vice president, AT&T; and Joe Letnaunchyn, president and CEO, WV Hospital Association. Newly elected members will begin their appointments at the start of 2014.
