West Virginia University’s second Transportation Week will be held from September 12-18 this year.

The week’s events are designed to highlight many alternative modes of transportation that WVU offers like the PRT, Mountain Line bus service, carpooling, WE Car short-term car rentals, and an occasional parking program for employees. Walking and biking will also be encouraged through Transportation Week.

For the 2009-10 school year, the WVU Department of Transportation and Parking has created several transportation options available to the WVU community. These programs are part of the WE GO! Campaign for Alternative Transportation, which was designed to help reduce on-campus parking demands, traffic congestion and pollution around Morgantown.

“Transportation Week is a great way to promote alternative modes of transportation to get around campus for our faculty, staff, and students,” said Hugh Kierig, director of transportation and parking. “In addition, with 2009 being the Year of Active Transport in Morgantown, our program fits in with the overall effort in the community to get people out of their cars and into other modes of transportation.”

The WVU Transportation Week schedule is:

Saturday, Sept. 12
Transportation Week starts off at the Morgantown Farmer’s Market open from 8:30 a.m.-noon located on Spruce Street and the corner of Fayette Avenue.
